Artist's Comments

My half of an art trade for :iconchessyoshi:.
Critiques are welcome, it's been a long time since I've colored anything properly.

Yoshis belong to Ninty.

Hehe! And the championship point gets by me!
I love how you made my hair extra lengthly! Very true to my character! Thanks!
I'll make sure my half is just as full of effort!

You're making me dizzy!
:iconleoshi:
Heh, ah, not bad. Dynamically, this is pretty well drawn actually, the characters are framed interestingly enough, the idea simple and straightforward. Nice expression on Chess's character as well, the pose is well drawn as well. If you don't mind just one bit of critique, I would recommend Chess being a bit further to the right, and the posture a bit more vertical, in order to allow a bit more lead room and dynamic posture. But this may of course may not be needed, considering of course the positioning of the tennis ball and whatnot.

So yeah, overall I believe you did a nice job! :O

Nice, but did you forget to color the part to the left of Yoshee?
:iconjumbi:
I left that part blank intentionally to give it more of a "popout" look. Unfortunately since it is only on one corner of the paper perhaps it looks tacky. If it really looks that bad I can fill it in.

I couldn't really tell I was just curious to be honest. It looks good either way.

I like the shading and the weather, but why must they abuse that ball so? I also like that you resisted or merely lacked the common urge to draw your character's nearer eye awkwardly escaping into a profile position, as so often happens when people depict rear views of cartoon characters like this.
:iconjumbi:
I think it was more lack of the urge, although the strange eye used to appear quite often. I just never showed those ones publicly.
Something must be abused here! It is just the way the world works. In my sketchbook the coloring or something similar to a spinning motion is more clear, although the scanner seems to think white is a good color too.

I think just about everybody who might have occasion to show such an eye has done so, myself included. Plenty of professional artists see no problem with it. I'm not sure why I mentioned it.

I have not had good experiences with scanning color-pencil drawings. The marks blend much better in the context of casual, natural lighting than strict, official scanner beams. They think they are rebels.
